Printer Won't Print? Try These Steps
Most printing problems come down to connection, a stuck queue, or supplies. These steps clear the majority of them.
Step-by-step
- 1
Check power, paper, and ink
Confirm the printer is on, has paper, and isn't out of ink or toner. Look for any error lights or messages on the printer itself.
- 2
Clear the print queue
A stuck job blocks everything behind it. Open your printer settings, cancel all documents in the queue, then try printing again.
- 3
Confirm the right printer is selected
Make sure you're printing to the correct printer (not 'Save as PDF' or an old one) and that it's set as the default.
- 4
Reconnect the printer
For Wi-Fi printers, confirm it's on the same network as your computer. Power-cycle the printer, and re-add it in your device's printer settings if needed.
- 5
Restart both devices
Restart the printer and your computer. This re-establishes the connection and clears temporary glitches.
Helpful tips
- Faded or streaky prints usually mean low ink or a clogged print head — run the printer's built-in cleaning cycle.
- Keep a spare ink or toner cartridge on hand to avoid downtime.
