- Schedule restarts for convenient times. Many systems let you pick a window, like overnight or during lunch, so a required restart never interrupts your work.
- Keep everything current, not just the operating system. Apps, browsers, plugins, and even device firmware (routers, printers, and security cameras) all receive updates that matter.
- Do not ignore restart prompts. Some patches only take effect after a reboot. An update that is downloaded but not applied is not protecting you yet.
For businesses: manage updates centrally
When you have more than a handful of computers, leaving updates to each person rarely works well. Some machines fall behind, and you have no easy way to know which ones.
